Near But Faraway is the first Sierra Leonean movie to be selected in the Global Migration Film Festival organised by the International Organisation for Migration (IOM), United Nation Organisation. This movie starred Sierra Leone finest Actor Kerry D. Barry (Ramadan) and Sierra Leone fastest growing Actor Zachariah Lloyd Sesay (Lloyd Zachy). The film is created by Humanitarian Association of Artist Advocacy Network Domain Africa (H.A.A.A.N.D. Africa) a non profit organisation that uses creative and performing arts to discourage social vices and promote the virtues.
The movie Near But Faraway is about two friends, J. Kabbah and his Friend Morri who took a loan to pay for a job in Guinea. Realizing that they have been duped and decieved having arrived in Guinea, J. Kabba and Morri faced with more ordeal as other migrants steal their back packs, which leaves them with no choice but to seek help from the International Organization for Migration in Guinea after staying for six months.
This short film project is created mainly to highlight some negative unprecedented repercussions to young people that embark on irregular migration and to discourage them from that. And to also be mindful of deception in the quest to seek a better life on other countries.
