We Say no curfew; Entertainers are starving
Looking at our entertainment industry, one would definitely tend to quit for better greener jobs. We have the worse entertainment industry in Africa if not the world over. Too sad, seriously sad!!!
Before the outbreak of #Corona Virus, some of us had already spent millions of leones to host our events, we could have held our two in one movie premiering in Bo early in April, prior to that we had already spent millions of leones on tickets, billboards, wall bills, bookings, adverts, jingles, media publicities and more. But the ban on public gathering just barred all that sending our resources to the dust. Kao Denero was to have the biggest Hip Hop musical concert in March at the national stadium, Lake Productions was to host Kizz Daniel on April 18, whiles Reems Entertainment was set to have a joint international show with Teni from Nigeria. I could vividly remember Burna Boy was also to be in Freetown in April. These and other events were nailed in the head due to covid 19. We accepted the ban and the night curfew with good fate for it was in the interest of us all Sierra Leoneans. Our lives and those of our friends and family members matters. But rolling down to 8 months heading to the 9th month, we are seeing no considerations to make things better. We are seeing the government relaxing most of the measures to suit the interest of other sectors but the entertainers are out of records. Just recently the government spent billions of leones to compensate other people staff and owners of hotels and night clubs, monies were also given to business people as relief funds, papa government; what about us?
Should I remind or inform the government that entertainment industry pays as much as the Agriculture, Fishing, mining and other industries? Yes, definitely check in Hollywood, India or even in Nigeria, the entertainment industry contributes greatly to the growth of their economies. We can do like wise if our issues are looked into with the necessary investment supports.
The entertainment industry is presently employing more than 70,0000 Sierra Leoneans especially youths who could not find the connectionsnnections to have paid jobs, this is where our passion has driven us to, this is where we feed and clothes ourselves. Papa Government we have family members looking forward to us for bread and butter. Our policies are being thrown into gallies but that’s not the present issue. With our shows, we can keep life moving and play around our games to get our audience entertained.
We are starving and we seek immediate remedies to make things work out.
We are all aware how governments in other countries are helping their entertainment industries with millions of Dollars to keep them on their toes. Despite the hard effects of covid 19 on Hollywood making them lose billions of dollars, but we heard what their government did to rescue the industry, so was UK, and other countries.
We are not asking for money, all we are asking for is to bring back our shows and end the curfew threshold. Our lives and that of our family members depends on the shows we make. We are not asking fo more and we hope this can be looked into with immediate effect.
Our quest is with peace and we are pleading with keen interest.
We know this government is a listening government.
May God Bless Sierra Leone.
